I am trying to put a packet together of reading materials for him- any thoughts (outside of ditching that computer?)

I saw something you might find interesting…
Someone is playing around with a new rebreather computer, in design stage only at the present.
Values include:
TTS, Ceiling time, Ceiling,
Depth, Dive time, CNS, ascent rate, (4 values that are too small to read easily.)
O2, Pc02, N2 EqN D(depth,) Dil Cyliner pressure, O2 Cylinder pressure.

I have a couple of copies of V-planner, and I am having trouble trying to run them. I don't think they are compatable with windows. When I try to plan out a dive, it says the depth is too deep for this program. Even if I put 100 feet. Whats out there thats simple, and will give me the ease to cut tables without trouble.

V-Planner is definately compatible with Windows. I have used it on 2000 and XP. Is this a demo version or registered version?

Yep - I have Vplanner on my laptop and use it regularly for bailout tables.

BTW, you can dive a VPM-style ascent on an existing-algo VR3 and it works out ok. The VR3 typically clears before you complete the VPM stops, and the profile works out just fine - you don't get unreasonably penalized for doing it that way.

I kinda like it, to be honest - I feel great after the dives, and run the VR3 on nominal conservatism, but do my ascent profile as a "VPM-type" thing.

I didn't know how well this would work out when I got the VR3, but it has proven to be reliable and easy.....

I'll upgrade mine if I can switch algos, but if not, I'm not sure if I will or not. It'll be a MUCH more difficult decision if I'm getting VPM but giving up what I have now.....

I see and feel your dilemma. I'm faced with a similar decision, although my VR3 has to go back to get the external oxygen sensor reading to work right (unstable readings even with the cable disconnected). I have been using my VR3 with the external oxygen sensor turned off for over 8 months now, because I'm waiting on the VPM release.

Maybe they think they can sell more VR3s if they offer two separate decompression models. I know they will have a lot more work to support both flavors.

I met the guy who's working on a rebreather with the handsets that you posted above. He has some great ideas for his CCR. Hopefully we will see it in the near future! 8)

Just a follow-up...Simon @ VR3 told me that the VPM update won't be available until the end of this year.
