Default New caves: Methods & Means......>the Belly Bottle

Have any of you ever come across a 'virgin' karst window & wanted to go exploring but left your gear behind at home? Sometimes, on my way thru cave country, I see spots that may hide caving secrets that a lot of us would love to find. Too remote to cart back-mounted doubles, or side mounted singles, I've found the single, belly mounted steel 72 to be the ideal setup for a 'jump' in the water to see what's there. Take a 500' reel with you, go lite & if need be, you can unhook your tank to do a poke thru with a no mount look-see. The other advantage to going lite, is that you are able to quickly get into the water & out of sight, should someone wonder what you are up to-!
Not for everyone, but there are some of us out there that are always on the hunt-!

I don't know, Jack. If I'm going into an overhead, I've got to have redundency. Figure a way to belly-mount two systems, and sign me up.

You may also want to check with the property owner, wasn't there a story about two cave divers held at gunpoint until the sheriff arrived?

Woody Jasper told me a story of doing that once and almost drowning because he was caught up in a cavern. Redundancy was developed for a reason. We would hate to lose you Jack, you're too much fun! Cindy

I use a single with a Y valve & a simple snap hook to a chest harness for quick & easy entry. Not to alarm any of you, but I really don't 'push' the envelope either, in that if it appears risky, I'll back out of the 'look-see' & not even attempt the dive. I've heard some of Woody's jaunts, & he's got a lot more experience than a lot of us, & some wild stories to boot. Ask him sometime Cindy, to talk of his 'push' thru Luraville connecting to Telford, with Tom Morris......that is a dive out of another era-!
Don't worry, I won't let you down & do something stupid, like taking unneccessary risks. I enjoy life too much to do that. & besides, I look forward to diving with you, whereever that may be-!
