Squirrel Girl is right, our community gets its share of the good, bad, odd and criminal much like the rest of society. I've moved on from my bad experience and chalked it up as a lesson learned about humanity. I prefer to concentrate on the amazing folks that I see at dive sites every day. We are fortunate to have such an incredible pool of people with talents, passion and love for this sport.
Very Classy Jill! I'm sure this surprises no one.

Probably not many will remember Wayne. Ditto for Neil Broome (sp?), or the guy that owned Dive Outpost and faked his own death.

This is just too interesting to let go. Please do tell more. (Highjack alert in process)

I doubt people will post anything on the third - scared of libel and all that. Something having to do with statutory rape, an upcoming prison term, and going to Panama City for a dive charter and never returning to the boat...

Always seek the advice of others, but NEVER let anyone else do your thinking for you.

I knew the guy when he ran Spring Systems. Get Bill Rennaker to tell you the whole story some time. It's a fairly twisted tale...

You brought up some blasts from the past. If the National Enquirer could publish all the stories from "cave country",it would be regarded as too imaginable. What amazes me is some stories that have completely evaded the forums, and I hear them brought up over a beer once and awhile-one may not have a statute of limitations and will only come to surface when all parties are gone.

I remember the guy in question that owned Dive Outpost. I wont mention his name but remember back in the mid 80's the main lobby was a restaraunt [sp?]. His brother was Leonard and made a mean Bionic Leonard Burger. He seemed like a nice guy to me.

Anyone please feel free to correct my remembrance of what happened. But it was back in the '90s that Wayne Marshall was secy-treasurer of the CDS. He embezzled about $25K from the CDS, was convicted, and went to jail. I don't want to get any facts wrong or smear the guy. But I believe that's the way it went down. The CDS has instituted some stipulations to avoid that happening again. They're kind of a pain (from my outsider view), but I guess you've got to prevent such a thing from happening again.

Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!
