Default How many "tourist" caves will be blown by Debbie

Combined with extremely high rain levels, and a record low aquifer, how many of the springs will reverse in the next 7 days. Not to morbid, but NFL has gotten nailed by some very high rain levels, which this will provide some necessary "healing" to the caves

Is there a list of what is considered a tourist cave?

Typically caves that are fairly common, have gold line, and training occurs.

I voted for more than 6. Essentially I would have voted for "all of them" if that had been a listed option. I would guess that even Ginnie will have issues. Although at Ginnie those issues will likely be limited to the area surrounding the entrance. I would guess that Ginnie might not be acceptable for instruction using either the Eye or the Ear as entrances. Ginnie could also have problems with parking and flooded steps. The conditions this year seem to be more extreme than my (limited) memory.

Flow was noticeably down on last Friday from what I recall right before the last flood that nearly took out Ginnie. During that time )3 years ago when the parking issues happened), we swam on a double stage to just beyond the 3600ft mark and flow was like Peacock even at the Henkle. I don't know that the river will get high enough, but wouldn't count it out...

Good question. The factors are the amount of depletion of the groundwater and severity on the reversal. Last time Little River had a severe reversal with a drought,it took several months before it had fair viz.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the caves on Merritts Mill Pond in Marianna will be fine.

Don't be so quick to jump to that conclusion...

I was in JB a few months ago (it was durring the millpond draw down) when so much rain dumped all at once that JB reversed in the middle of my dive. When I came up the chimney vis was <30' and dropping fast. My first thought was "Damn, who f***ed up the vis." By the time I got to the beginning of the goldline it was <5' and by the time I got to my deco bottle vis was less than a foot. I think it took arround a week for it to clear all the way up.
