Not having tables to back up your computer, just isn't smart. I admit just diving JB or something I don't carry tables as it's easy to do more deco than necessary if the computer dies, but if I'm tri-mix and that of course means multiple stops etc., then I think not having your stops and times printed out is foolish.

That's why we use a computer to back up our computer.

My tables also include how much deco gas I need, so if I find a deeper section I can know if I have the deco reserves to go there or not, or if my SAC is lower than expected and the dive goes overtime, I know if I can keep going.

You can of course, printing them out is maybe sort of "old school" but I think it does make you more likely to plan a dive as opposed to , I'll just watch the computer. I've always been amazed at how different the deco tables in different computers can be. I think th emost conservative approach is to print tables and have a back up computer

They shouldn't be much, if any different. How are you cutting tables and what computer are you using?

I use multideco to plan the dive, and get an idea of how long I'll spend on deco and what gas I'll need. Then roll with dual computers. My backup is aggressive and my primary is set conservative. Gives me an idea of when I can get out vs when I want to get out.

when I dive with someone who is using a Dive Rite computer, they always have much more Deco than my Shearwater. I use V-Planner to plan with, it's close to my Shearwater, I have not enabled additional software in the Shearwater

Ah okay, that's normal, and why I choose not to dive a computer (aside from the financial aspect of being a recent graduate)

I can match a v-planner profile with my shearwater (running VPM-B upgrade), and do carry a backup computer. For me, cutting tables and sticking tightly to a runtime plan is great practice for getting things sorted and keeping on schedule. Aside from temporal awareness, this helps build a good mental model of different profiles and deco plans, and associated gas requirements.

Hopefully this awareness provides a good "reality check" for any of my dive plans.
