Angry Adena Spring Ranch in Ocala FL wanting 13.2 million gallons of water per day in Ocala

    http://www.gainesville.com/article/2...on-Adena-Ranch

    http://www.sjrwmd.com/facts/AdenaSpringsRanchCUP.html

Over the past several decades, Silver Springs has had a dramatic decline in its flow by more than 50 percent as well as increases in nutrient pollution, because of excessive groundwater withdrawals, poorly treated wastewater, and excessive use of fertilizer.

    From The Sierra Club
The last thing Silver Springs needs is an additional, dramatic loss of the groundwater that feeds it. But that is what Adena Ranch (a cattle feeding and slaughterhouse operation) wants; and the St. Johns River Water Management District is preparing to give. Adena Ranch is asking for a permit to withdraw 13.2 million gallons of water per day for 30,000 cattle and a slaughter house -- more water than the daily consumption of the entire City of Ocala, from the aquifer that sustains Florida's most beloved, iconic springs.

The Yellow marker on the map is the ranch location, thanks to Walter for putting all the spring on his site with map location

This is just one of the straws on the back of the camel.

Sadly, the WMDs in Florida will not change course until the camel dies.

Time for households in Florida who are on wells to have a couple of these in their garages (if they don't already): http://freshwater.ecogreenenergies.com

Losing the water is bad enough, but how much Nitrogen will 30,000 cattle put into the ground water, and what is done with the "remains" of a slaughterhouse?

Considering the head of the suwanee water management district is a cattle rancher I'd bet that this will be approved no matter what it might do to water levels or quality.
Some day I think folks will bear arms for water and things will suck...until then it's cheap hotdogs and bottling everything in sight.

I'm sure your correct, its all about money (greed). I have seen the cave diving community fight issues before and its impressive when we want to get something done. So I still have hope
