How many members do you think the NACD and NSS-CDS have. Of those, how many do you think are currently active cave divers, or have made cave dives in the past 3 years? Just curious.

The latest NSS Members manual lists CDS membership at ~960 or so.
As for the number of active cave divers in the CDS, that's be a tough number to track down but interesting number to know.

I'm trying to figure out how to get cave divers reasonably insured.
Currently, it costs a fortune to get life insurance as a cave diver, unless you get a crappy policy through DAN, or buy multiples of your income through work (which is also a crappy policy).
I think the NACD is 1000 give or take if I remember from some comments made at the 2010 seminar.

One option is an accidental death and dismemberment policy. Won't cover organic diseases, but is inexpensive and covers (or should) scuba incidents.

AD&D doesn't cover much at all. I'm looking at getting the mortality tables for cave divers re-examined.
Not that I am an insurance expert, but if we have 1 or 2 thousand cave dives and two or three or four of them die each year, I dont see the insurance companies wanting to lower rates. They bet on on odds just like Vegas. Not to mention that the majority of cave diving deaths are a result of operator error to some degree.
You should be looking at the number of dives per year, not just divers. Ask at all the N. FL dive shops, to get an idea how many fills they do per year. Add all those up, and you can get better statistics.
