    Default Emerald 5-15-12

Jason Ottinger, Gerri, Keith Mille and I went into Emerald yesterday and removed the trash. Whoever tied the handicap parking signs to the mailbox must have been the guy that ties all the rope puzzles together on Survivor. Removed some beer bottles and other assorted junk.

Vis was 50 feet plus in the basin, after a 20 foot layer of crap. Improved in the upstream to 60 feet or so, but you can see the sediments coming down from all the recent rain. If you are going, go soon, if the rain keeps up every day, this will go under. I looked at Sullivan, and as of now, nothing appears to be siphoning into the sink, but the creek is getting full.

There were some dead catfish scattered in the cave, and quite a few fingerling size catfish swimming around. Do catfish die after spawning? Lots of small craw fish.

none of the swallets (sullivan included) are taking in water. I think emerald is safe for the foreseeable future

Nice dive at Emerald today, viz milky to about 9-10 ft then it clears up nicely, gets a little milky again at depth......took care of the wasp nest in the porta potty, the ones by the stairs are no issue, just leave them alone....they did not bother us.

    Dive safe,
