    Default Defining the Anti Social

We've just about established that the Anti Social will take place at Jackson Blue Spring in October, but we have people going at it from two different directions, so we need to decide exactly what it's going to be before the time draws short.

The first Anti Social was a completely unstructured event. The only thing about it that was organized was that we agreed on a date. Folks showed up and dived. That was it.

Many people on this forum are viewing the upcoming Anti Social as an extension of the usual socials. Renting the pavilion, having a cookout, door prizes, kids and families...

I don't have a preference as to which direction we take, but it can't be both. First, Jackson Blue Spring County Park isn't set up for non-divers during the off-season. We have the occasional non-diving spouse, but I don't think I've ever seen a bunch of kids there. I don't know how the county would feel about it, unless we went all out and rented the park for the day.

We should have a discussion concerning the pros and cons of organized vs. unorganized, and by August, make a decision.

If anyone has any experience dealing with the Jackson County Commission, you get to volunteer. I know the ladies who will be attending would love for the restrooms to be open!

    Default as long as....

Well, thinking back to the last social at Ginnie.... someone took the beer home early with them and only left 1 gallon for the rest of us. I only hope that area gets looked at more closely!

Is it clear? No? Well....let's go anyways.

Diving is an activity that I like to do when I travel over 4hrs to a location...

We can have a big fire and hang out and BS after the dives.

What dates have been settled on? If I'm off over that weekend, I'll be there...and I don't really care whether it's formal or informal. I have not yet been to JB, so it'll be a treat.

What do they charge to rent the park out? I'm sure that would be cost prohibitive....though, if you don't have an annual pass and plan to dive 3 days, you're looking at $75 for just one person...so who knows.

I'm hoping Kelly will chime in. The last time I was there, there was a birthday party going on, and the guy told me it was something like $85 plus $2 per person. But that wasn't diving.

I'm guessing they would charge something like $85 plus everyone would be responsibly for their diving fees ($25 or annual pass), and all that would really get us would be unlocking the restrooms. If we decide on an unorganized Anti Social, we'd just forego the renting of the park, and do without restrooms. It would mainly be up to whether or not a bunch of folks want to bring non-diving family members.

Come on, folks, let's hear some opinions.

I think it is definitetely worth renting out the park if its in the $100 range. This allows spousal units, kids, and others who tag along to come along and enjoy the day.

I'll come either way, but that's my vote.

I'll see if I can get in touch with one of the commissioners tomorrow and get some numbers. Maybe if we have twenty or thirty divers coming at $25 a pop, they'll have someone come by to unlock the restrooms. It's worth a shot. If that works, maybe we can be allowed to bring a grill and do it like the other socials. Twenty divers paying $25 each is about five times what they usually get for parties.

I don't know how to set up a poll, but I'll try to get one of the other moderators to set one up to see how many people want to bring non-diving family.

The poll from last month showed October 22 to be the most popular date, so I'll shoot for that.
