LOL, pretty sure he meant "bottom step of the main stairs." The side stairs are the only way out, for sure.

My name is Shirley Kasser Creech and I approve this message. Well, at least one of me does, anyway. Maybe. Fire. Sharp things. Squirrel!
Shirley you're not serious? No, I'm not, but do stop calling me Shirley.
I've done the handline method for exiting OG with less than stellar results. A better (and safer) method is to make an etrier using Frost knot on 1" wide tubular webbing at the top connection (see NSS On Rope book for method). Another easier method is to use 8mm accessory cord and tie in-line figure 8 knots pointed downward to create foot loops to stand in. Just make sure that your first loop ends up being situated about 4' below the water surface, when you first stand up and gravity rears its ugly head.

Are P-1 and Orange Grove still dropping?
Dove P1 Sat 4/28 and a week later on Sat 5/5 and there was a noticeable drop across one week.
The run from P1 looked powder dry. There was a noticeable change vs. my last trip three weeks ago.
