Oh come on, nothing like a good Peanut Tunnel story.
Went to 1100P, left cookie and turned an uneventful dive. Ate a sandwich, refilled gas and retrieved cookie later.
I'd rather hear that than the news that gets reported every evening! In fact a good cavern dive report at JB is better than our national news of late.
If cave diving were Star Wars, who would be Yoda?
Well, I wouldn't say that the terms useless and worthless are synonyms. While I don't find utility **for myself** in reading a report on a dive I have likely done dozens (or more) times, I would not go so far as to say the dive had no worth. it certainly had worth to those who were there, and there are others who derive utility from it. Conversely, reading about things I do (if I posted them) probably wouldn't have much (if any) utility to anyone who doesn't do what I do the way that I do it (i.e. on a CCR); though it might have some value as entertainment.
Personally I like them. Now I am by far from the most experienced here, nor am I a newb. I have been cave diving since 2002. I find all of the reports, especially the detailed ones, great. I am out of country a lot, and reading them brings on memories and I picture myself on those dives. I also like hearing others impressions and feelings of their dives. If you don't like them, don't click them.
It's not the years in your life that matter, but the life in your years.
I have to agree. I'm from Australia, I will be coming over in a month and I've been reading the reports by those "worthless Newbs" because I haven't dived in Florida caves before. That run of the mill boring dives you speak of are what I'm coming to see.. If all that were posted were the true exploration reports by those doing the ground breaking dives, there would be a) bugger all posts about diving your area and b) not many people wanting to come there to dive it, where a lot of you derive your livelyhood from the tourists or "Newbs"
I'm not going to plan my first ever trip to Florida to push the end of Eagle's because there might be some unseen tunnel there...
I like dive reports, particularly the entertaining ones that are well written. I live in Seattle and get to dive caves twice a year, if I'm lucky, so I live vicariously through you guys.
Reports with pictures are more fun, and the best reports of all were the ones with the video and the little red dot marking "we were here" on the map.
I can't remember who it was who was posting all his explorations in Ginnie for a while, with an annotated map -- that's good information for the next time I head in there.
I don't change my equipment configuration or procedures, but then again, I'm not allowed any flexibility . . .![]()
Interesting feedback... Thank You.
Nah, rereading my original question I can see it was poorly worded and a more than a bit negative... Enlightened self-interest if nothing else would keep me away from writing anything that would discourage people sharing their enthusiasm.
It would have been better perhaps if I'd have explained that trip reports are not the issue. They seem to have an intrinsic value... or gestalt when they gather good feedback and comments, which is after all one of several strengths of this type of platform.
I think what triggered my post was seeing a couple of threads which were pretty dramatic illustrations of chest-thumping... when no gorilla dives had been accomplished.
That still sounds kind of elitist but at any rate, the feedback has been good.
Good one... where do I click to give you a greenie?
It was friggin' brilliant actually, mate.
Not quite that black and white.
But interesting feedback.
