    Default Flooded ShearWater

I had a customer the other day, looking for a new O-ring for SW.
He says he changes the O-ring every time he changes a battery.

    Do You do that?
What if you flood the battery compartment? Is the computer and battery compartment sealed from each other?

Send an email to Shearwater. They are very quick to answer. Post here what they say

I slap some O2 clean greese on it when I change the batts but only because it's always handy when I change. I've never changed the o-rings and 3 yrs of diving them never had so much as a drop of water in there. The batt compartment and main body are not sealed from eachother...I know because I had to get my batt wire repaired once due to being in a hurry changing a battery

I'll inpsect it, and if it looks contaminated with dust, salt, etc I will remove it, clean it and re-lube it. I will also clean the o-ring groove and the mating surface in the computer as it is contamination or damage in the groove that causes most leaks, not a bad o-ring, as the o-ring is for all practical purposes a static o-ring.

I can't image anyone at this point in time designing a computer where the battery compartment is not fully sealed and spearate from the computer itself so that a leaking battery conpartment does not kill the computer.
