Many art museums and a thriving art community. From a personal point of view we need more art collectors. Lots of safe thriving neighborhoods. Plenty of good paying jobs even in a resession. All in all a great place to raise my kids. As per diving, from lower Lake Michigan to 3 Rivers Wi. offers someof the best wreck diving anywhere. The number of fully intact ships is awesome. The history of the area as the waterway to the west is very interesting. The season is short and the water is cold but to be honest my favorite time to dive here is mid April to early June. The cold keeps the nitwits off the lake and the vis is great (I have had 70 ft) Argon and dry suit with heavy underwear very highly recommended. I had a lot of fun with local dive clubs and in Feb we have Our World Underwaterthe largest dive indrustry show in the midwest. Then in March just about 1 hr away there is The Ghost Ships Festival in Milwaukee. The one big negitive is I am 7 hours to the nearest cave systems in either Missouri or Wi. As I get older the winters hurt more but then I spend most of January in Florida. Chicago has done me well.
Oh, I know. As a matter of fact, the John G Shedd Aquarium has ties to my family history. My family is also majority shareholders of two large businesses in the greater Chicago area. However, I was born and raised in Wisconsin and it is hard for me to admit anything good comes from there! LOL. We used to drive down to Chicago for the day just to go to Gino's East to get a pie. Love that place. I have not been in since 1995 though. I would kill for a pie from there now.

There's a photo of an altercation in this article that ended badly for both parties: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-16791094

I'm in the process of buying a sea kayak for river and 'glades trips. Up close and personal with some interesting fauna!

Sorry it was a lame attempt at humor based upon the previous comment relating your board name to the ninja turtle character. Absolutely no offence intended...

In case you really did want to know, Splinter was the enlightened Zen/rodent that was the 4 orphaned turtle babies guardian and sensei! Its scary how much I've been influenced by the mind numbing children's programming that my kids grew up with... I also know what a snuffalufagus is...

At the risk of hijacking a thoroughly hijacked thread... the correct name of the critter you're referring to is
    Snuffleupagus

Most of the crap out now for my kids is even worse. They usually enjoy the older shows more anyways. The one notable exception is "Phineas and Ferb". That show is really well written. I have even been known to sit around and watch it after my kids go to bed.

Having a daughter that is now 28 is why I thought of TMNT when I saw Michalengo, I didn't mean anything by it. Sorry about the spelling too, I can't and it looks like an IPAD doesn't have spell checker?

+1 on the Gino's East. That place rocks! On another note about Chi-town, if you have time read the book "Devil in the White City". Very interesting read about the rise of Chicago during the World's fair.
