Unless something has changed those are often random check points.. Sometimes they are there and other times they are not..

Open a church there. I am Presbyterian and my wife and I are wanting to end up living in Tulum or Akumal in the future. At least I would have a chuch to go to! LOL.

This sure is sad, we all need to start keeping a eye out and check out what looks strange. We can tell a cave diver from scum that steals.

These are not randon and manned 24 hrs. They have set their hut up also. the randon ones I have always seen are just a quick road block control with vehicles and cones. In and out of Tulum has covered/stone police area. As per normal the police will be standing there but smoking and not looking at the the checkpoint

How does one park in a remote area at Orange Grove. It looked packed with cars last weekend.

    Where was the car/truck/trailer parked?

If you live in the city + have ever parked for dives inside Telford's gates when it was open to the public, you tend to go to extremes to cover or remove your dive gear sight, no matter where you park. It's sad, but similar threads show up each year. Still, you can walk around most any dive site and see tons of gear sitting in the back of open pick ups, for example. I agree that the threat is from non-divers and that it must be taken seriously. I'm sorry for your loss at OG.

Rebreathers are something that we have to go to in order to dive the way we want to dive. They are not something we go to for any other reason.

Telford used to be HORRIBLE!!! We would actually bring two teams and and switch off one guarding the cars and one diving.

The first time I went to Telford was 2005 or 2006, shortly after the NACD (I think, might have been the NSS-CDS, I belong to both) had put a dumpster there to try to give the party crowd a place to throw their trash other than in the woods and the spring. I was looking forward to seeing the dumpster that my dues had helped provide. I did. It had been filled with trash, tipped on its side, and set on fire.

Now that's a shock! Yeah, not really. It amazes me. The first time I ever saw Telford was in January of 2003. The group I was diving with that week decided we were going to run over there and just take a look. We did not dive it that weekend. However, we spent a good amount of time pickiung up beer bottles and other trash from the locals. It just pisses me off to no end. SMDH. We ended up going to Cow instead if I recall properly.

This past October when I saw the new tank benches at Little River for the first time, the one I was just about to set my tanks down on had a used condom catheter sitting on it.

I like to think that cave divers are more concerned then the general public about keeping dive sites clean, but I guess I can't blame everything on the skinnydippers.
