Care to elaborate, so we don't continue to keep making the same mistakes as those in the past?

Not really, i think that new mistakes are being made as we exchange these trivial forum posts.

Thanks, Kelly, Rob, Bill/members of the Wakulla Dive Club. As an out of towner, I would love to be able to come to these meetings but will be happy to write a letter. Please advise on the timing. My b.f. and I visit Florida several times a year---"every vacation a dive vacation." Right now we're in Mexico, diving caves (and some open water). Why spend our money elsewhere? I will follow this discussion to keep posted on the best timing for writing to DEP, the governor, and others.

Mat, the problem is this new "campaign" ia approaching this without doing any research as to what's been done in the past. I stated this several days ago and was pretty much ignored. There is still a push to send letters requesting Wakulla be open to diving but no factual information addressing the issues of the past. This will not help open Wakulla. It may only create a bigger roadblock. I started looking into something similar about a year and a half ago and am still gathering information. This is not something anyone is going to accomplish in just a few months. It will take time, possibly years. I think the letter campaign needs to be put on hold until you guys do some homework. A blind campaign will do nothing to help.

It is going to require both. "The People" calling for access, and someone telling them "look at all the money you can make while making all these people happy". We can tell them there are however many people wanting to dive Wakulla, but if no one gets up and yells "I wanna dive Wakulla", what are they going to believe?

You are missing an important point. The purpose of the parks system isn't to make money, it is to conserve resources, and allow public participation as long as it is safe. Convincing them a 300' deep cave is safe may take a lot of convincing.

Well if you want advice this is not the place nor the method to exchange info...how about we go on a short dive and have some lunch? You have my email from the wdc mailing list.

I agree. This forum is sitting there for anyone to read. I'm sure this topic would pop up on a google search. If we want to get access to this site, sniping at one another on an internet forum is not going to help anything at all. Many valid points and arguments have been made. Many strategies have been presented. It is important that we as a community discuss a unified strategy for this effort. It is also important that we maintain both professionalism and civility in this process. It is very easy to forget that we are not the only people that read this forum.

I acknowledged what you said earlier in this thread, you can find it here http://www.cavediver.net/forum/showt...l=1#post169172 . I agree with you, and I want to know what we can do to provide the information necessary.

Unfortunately, everyone wants to keep discussion incredibly vague and keep it all in secracy.
