It's hard to believe the level of corruption and bribes that still exist in Mexico today. It has opened my eyes. They are going to drive away the tourist traffic in Tulum.

MX was crazier than I had expected, I was over there this weekend and saw armed police with assault rifles every few minutes.

They were there 2 1/2 years ago also. I even saw flat bed trucks loaded with police with automatic assault rifles.

That stuff hits very close to home for me. My wife being from Mexico, and the fact that I want to retire to Tulum. It amazes me what goes on down in Mexico. I could probably go on for a 10 page rant about things, but will refrain. I feel very bad for the good people of Mexico. It sickens me.

Even to the point of having to register passport
    To use your phone
I've been traveling down to Cancun Tulum over 25 years
I would recommend knowing what your doing
Or traveling with someone that knows the area...
    It just ain't the same

Even some of the locals did not understand it. It appears there are Federal Police, City Police and another group collecting bribes. According to one source it is illegal to transport scuba tanks (illegal as the permit does not exist).

We were stopped by the Federal Police because the vehicle registration did not match the driver's name. We drove back to Villa DeRosa and magically about 20 minutes later everything was fine and we were back driving the same van with same driver.

    Today was even more drama.

Beautiful caves. So for all evil there is good and for all good there is evil.

The cab drivers don't want scuba companies
    Taking their money
There are big turf wars over scuba operators/guides
    Transporting divers..go figure
We've been blocked by several cabs and held a while in a private vehicle when transporting scuba gear...and the police were even called
