    Is CO a by product of oxydization? I'm just thinking steel storage cylinder, filled with O2. At what rate does oxidization occur in those tanks?

    Oxidization can happen in all tanks, the higher the O2 the more likely oxidization. It’s a good reason to dump and vip annually. Another thing I notice and do is analyze my tanks at time of fill then again b4 using or if sitting in storage. (Winter cuts way down on the amount of diving here in Chicago) If the tank been sitting I re analyze it every 3 months with same analyizer. If the mix is off more than a point I will dump it and give it a viz. It’s rare and may be over kill but again a nitrox fill is way cheaper than a funeral.
    Fyi I too immediately checked all my tanks for CO when the analyzer came all read 0 including my 50% and

    After following the threads about CO we bought 2 of them, 1 for the dive club and one for a small group of tech divers.

    They arrived in Australia last week and I analysed all my tanks:

    O2 clean twins were 0ppm
    Pair of steels for sidemount etc (not O2 clean) were 1ppm
    Pair of suit inflate bottles (air filled at another store so checked them) 2ppm

    All under the 3ppm cut off that we've set ourselves after reading Rob's post about the Analox seminar at DEMA.

    I will certainly be analysing the fills I get from that one store very carefully though........

    Does anybody make a CO analyzer besides Oxy Cheq?

    Oxycheq doesn't make its analyzers. They rebrand the ones here - www.c-squaredinc.com.

    Analox makes their analyzers.

    CO is a byproduct of incomplete (oxygen limited, as opposed to fuel limited) combustion, which is rapid oxidation. The process of slow oxidation inside a steel or aluminum storage cylinder does not generate any significant gaseous byproducts.

    More importantly, it's the result of oxidation of carbon. Not steel. Not aluminium.

    Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I was always told that moisture was necessary for significant oxidation to occur in steel tanks. We store pure O2 at 3,000psi in steel cylinders for 1 year (fire dept) without any contamination problems. BUT... the oxygen is completely moisture free (dew point always tests "off the scale"/ below -110 deg).

    Do not go gentle into that good night.
