    Default Carbon Monoxide

A friend that recently got a CO analyzer analyzed all his tanks. His nitrox tanks were all 0. His 50% O2 bottle came up with a reading fluctuating between 2 and 3. His O2 bottle read 5! I've analyzed all mine and they all read 0 so I don't think the higher percentage of O2 has anything to do with this. Please make sure you analyze every cylinder for CO, including O2.

    GREAT IDEA!!!
Funny (not) what we tend to overlook...

I would probably worry even more about O2 tanks. If organic materials are flamed in the filling process, besides a risk of explosion which most people rightly worry about, there is the creation of combustion byproducts such as CO.

I have occasionally had a slightly off taste from my oxygen bottles. This thread got me thinking about it - it's time to do some analysis!

At least we breathe O2 shallow so the pp wouldn't be "too" bad (tongue placed firmly in cheek)...still, not something I want in any of my breathing gas.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

Not to mention O2 is the "antidote" anyway.

wonder at what point O2..and CO
    counteract each other...

That was my thought too. 5 ppm isn't enough to affect you at 20 ft but now you have 2 of the 3 pieces of the equation for a big boom! And what's happening at the fill station to cause contaminated O2? I know of another incident in which a friend got some bad O2. Unfortunately I didn't have my CO analyzer at that time but we do know the source was in the valve so it had to become contaminated during the fill.

CO will win, if the concentration gets high enough. Even a little will cause you to make errors, so you may actually end up killing yourself.

Any idea if that O2 bottle was boosted or just topped from a T?
