I was exploring the Harper tunnel a couple a weeks ago.

It's a beautiful tunnel. I really like how tight and twisty it is. You can tell the tunnel is seldom visited by the amount of silt laying on the line. There are a couple of clay banks along the way (I think they are clay banks anyway).

I think I was past the original end of line drawn on the map. I could see what looked like the original end of line, with different line going back even further. Later I came to a no-mount restriction and turned the dive there. I remember having to back up approximately 50' before I had room to turn around. By then I had the place completely silted out. I remember thinking on the way back, that it would be nice to be able to see again. Once again good cave training pays off.

Excellent dive if you like tight, twisty, and silty.

This is a scary tunnel and unless you are comfortable with tanks off navigating a Z- bend in zero vis I would not recommend it. I have been there, I don't care to go back, its not worth it... but if I do I will wait until the flow comes back a little, and go on a slow day, it will ruin visibility through most of the system.

Just out of curiosity, did you enter this nasty ass tunnel from the Florida Room side or from the Harper Tunnel side?

I received an e-mail from Marius Frei today and he said that he did survey, collect data and mapped the connection and gave some of the information to Lamar Hires.
As some of you know, Marius was involved in a very bad bicycle accident and he has just been released from a rehab center and is doing better but mentioned that he would likely not be able to come back to the US until next winter.

Just some info of local interest. I believe the tunnel with connection has been known about for a long time. Herd Wes made the connection years ago...

Dove the tunnel yesterday with a backmount buddy, the clay banks and twisting and turning was pretty awesome. We turned when he couldn't wiggle his doubles any further. Exiting in that tunnel with a backmount'r was "interesting."
