Commemorating the loss of Parker Turner 20 years ago; Nov 17, 1991
Twenty years ago, on November 17, 1991, Parker Turner died while on an exploration dive in a north Florida spring. To all of us who remember his contributions to the NACD and the cave diving community in general, we miss him. Rest in peace.
Thank you for the reminder. I wish I could have met him.

Wow...thanks for bringing this to our attention. I guess we should've mentioned this at the NACD seminar last week. That's Parker Turner on the NACD's "Art of Safe Cave Diving" tee-shirt. I've often wondered how cave diving would be (in terms of politics, the WKPP, DIR, etc) if Turner hadn't passed...

Hi Vince;
Great minds think alike. I was thinking about Parker yesterday, and I knew it was about this time of year. I didn't know him well, I was not diving a lot at that time, but I knew him by sight, and by sound. He had a distinct voice. I was at my office the week after, and Mike Harris called me and told me that Parker had died in a cave in at Indian. I didn't see how that was possible, I had been in Indian many times, and it is just too damn big to cave in. A couple of months later, I read Gavin's report. RIP Parker.

23 yrs ago, Parker got me off air and onto trimix for all my dives beyond 130. I have not dived air on a dive in that long. I am wearing my NACD Parker tshirt today.
