    Default Blue Hole Development

It seems that the City of Santa Rosa, New Mexico is planning on rejuvenating the Blue Hole site. A friend coming back from LA picked up a copy of the paper that outlined the three phases of planned development. They want to first restore the spring to its full beauty and stabilize the site. Next is a development program that will provide changing rooms, a café, new dive store and a conference center. The final stages are to include a full blown indoor/outdoor pool, connecting to the spring but no contaminating it.

The part that should excite divers from this forum is the following- the plan on opening the cave at the bottom of the site to experienced cave divers so the cave can be explored. To my understanding the cave was closed in the 70’s. Plus, there is talk of a decompression chamber onsite!

Sounds great! Maybe you should get part of the $130,000 annual marketing budget.

Where did you hear about the plan to open the cave to experienced cave divers?

    Default North Of Interstate 10

New Mexico? I have heard of that area of the country. Isn't that somewhere north of interstate I-10 in Florida................LOL. Sorry but it would take acts of congress the Presedent to get me to leave north Florida. Glad to hear it may provide some diving for the west coast cave divers.

Thats very interesting, especialy the possibility of an on-site deco chamber. Hopefully they will never need it, but they will be glad to have it if there is an emergency.

There is rumor that this is the same aquifer that feeds lechuguilla system. It has some great potential but that is a ways off.

    Source-Santa Rosa News- Friday June 10th 2005
The newspaper is only printed every Friday.
Front page- “Big Plans for Blue Hole”
    Far right paragraph- mid sentence.
“a decompression chamber, opening of the cave for expert divers.”

The reason stated later for the chamber was the only other chamber is presently in Albuquerque NM.

I wish that I received a section of the advertising; I just thought it was an interesting development for our community.

That's great news to me! My parents live near a ski resort a few hours north of there, so a nice dive would be a great addition to my next snowboarding trip!
