Manifold /ma nuh fold/ : a chamber having several outlets through which a liquid or gas is distributed or gathered.

I'm going to have to go with FW on this one...mostly... Gas is distributed from the tanks, through the VALVES AND PIPE OR ISOLATOR bar so that it can be DISTRIBUTED to either second. Without the pipe or bar, they are just valves. Without the valve, there is a pipe that goes nowhere. A manifold is both together.

FW: Think about an exhaust manifold... isolation is not happeing, but distribution is... therefore isolator not required if a pipe exists to distribute.

True, but those are called "manifolds" because several cylinders are attached. If there is only one cylinder, it is just called an exhaust pipe

I never said isolation was requited. You can get a crossover tube with, or without, an isolator.

...but we're talking about doubles, not single cylinders, so therefore the pipe(isolotor or not) is a manifold

The manifold distributes gas between two outlets in a doubled up scuba setup. Tank valves are just a connection point, remove the tank valves, and connect the tube(isolator or not) to the tanks in some other fashion; and that tube is still a manifold

I have a couple too, if anyone needs them. I suspect there are a lot lying around from people switching over to sidemount.

Wait till the new fad of using backmount double hits again. Everyone will want one.

I thought it was a manifold.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

Manifold: The word manifold comes from the Old English word manigfeald (from the Anglo-Saxon manig [many] and feald [fold]) and refers to the folding together of multiple inputs and outputs.
Manifold: The crossbar between two valves on double SCUBA tanks.
Manifold: The entire unit (including modular valves) used to connect two SCUBA tanks.

Its all about the connotation I agree with ALL!

That's why I'm keeping mine. They are carefully tucked away alongside the spare parts for vehicles and farm equipment that I no longer have, ammunition that doesn't fit any gun I currently own, and socks whose mates have disappeared.
