    Default Emerald 8-4-11

Jason, Gerri and I went into upstream Emerald yesterday afternoon. Had a layer of crud down to about 16 feet deep, then 50 feet plus of vis with a bit of suspended particulates and a bit of milky water flowing through. Lots of small crayfish.

We dove the short circuit - Emerald-Split-Cheryl-Emerald, a bit of flow, nice dive. Total time 60 minutes - total deco 0

Back in 2005 we donated for the building of the steps. We could not make it to help with step construction, but I do wish to dive it soon. I've not been that far North in years now. What are the requirements or permits needed to dive Emerald?

I helped work on the steps one Saturday. I know there is some depth here so is trimix mandatory or can one stay at 130 ft and still get anywhere?

Is getting on the Emerald list done in the same way at this point? I was told the Emerald commitee had dissolved? I'm not sure why, nothing else has changed that I can see to fascilitate the removal of the committee?

There's a couple thousand feet of cave thats shallow(averaging in the 50' range) at Emearld, including a nice circuit.

However, its deepish quick on the downstream side and proper deep, eventually, going upstream. The powers that be, require Trimix because of this, as well as 100 post full cave dives(and proof of such). I agree with the latter, not so much the former :P

Its a beautiful stretch of cave.

    Good morning John (OFG-1),

Thank you for the information. Does the "proof" need to be logged Trimix Cave dives? I have Trimix experience in Alachua, Di-polderIII, Peacock III, Captiva Blue Hole, 40 Fathoms Grotto, deep trimix saltwater caverns off the east coast and many non-trimix Advanced Cave dives that were at the edges of trimix range.

I'll fill out the form. I appreciate the information John. I also appreciate the other comments on what routes and other diving profiles at Emerald the members have provided.

Safe diving and clear water to all of you!

I believe it is just 100 logged cave dives. You can also get the Wakulla award or the Abe Davis award and that will suffice as proof of dives.

I've never applied for the Abe Davis "award", what are the requirements for the Wakulla Award?

I believe they are similar, one is NACD the other NSS-CDS. Check the websites for NACD and NSS-CDS.

    Cheers
