I have a ring on the front of my scooter and use a double endeder to clip it to my butt D-ring. If your scooter is trimmed right it follows nice and is out of the way completely.
blessed are the cracked for they let in the light!
The flow would be trying to push it out ahead of you - and holding with with your legs to keep it behind you when going downstream is do-able but is a PITA. However, Rich' method is interesting is potentially useful in terms of integrating that traditional tow the scooter behind you approach with Rich's excellent clip-it-like-a-stage suggestion.
Running the tow cord forward through a handle on the front of the scooter and then clipping to a butt D-ring is more or less a standard procedure and works pretty well for towing my (admittedly old tech) Mako scooters on a butt D-ring. The Mako uses attachments for the tow cord at the base of the handles (6 and 12 o'clock) however it also has a fitting on the shroud that can be used to attach a loop for a double ender. I am wondering whether you could clip the tow cord to the butt D-ring in the normal tow it behind you configuration but then swing it forward and use a double ender on a loop to clip the shroud to the right shoulder D-ring to carry it more or less like a stage. Assuming the tow cord is adjusted long enough, it on one end of the scooter and the double ender on the other should keep both ends of the scooter under control.
