Right but most passages are bm to a point. A marker could tell people " hey this is going to get tight and you don't want to keep going" much like when you are driving in a bad neighborhood and you stop seeing certain stores and start seeing nothing but bail bonds, liquor stores, pawn shops, and gun stores you know its time to turn around. Not to mention in a low vis cave such a marker could keep a bm guy out of a Jam.

When you can see the cave then yes any full cave card holder should be able to see it and know better. But what about when it starts out big then gets smaller and smaller and before you know it you can't turn around without making a mess. This could help prevent such a thing.

OK, I can understand how such a sign might be of some value, but there are still limits to its usefullness. I am BM with a rebreather and can still go through a lot of passage that is SM (I am a skinny bastard). Any full caver should be able to make up his/her own mind about any passage in front of them. I know that I have miscalculated my size more than once and ended up either stuck or squeezed beyond my comfort level. If you are not prepared to back out of a passage, perhaps you should not proceed?

Adam, are you suggesting putting signs in the cave or a notation on the map?

You can just wait like another year and everyone will be diving sidemount.

The problem I see with this is its completely subjective to the diver. I can fit in a much smaller area in BM that most of my buddies (I am smaller in stature). Where do you set the standard?

Either signals on a map or markers on a line. And I understand everyone is different. That's why I suggested a standard size. Kane a 220lbs diver in lp130's

If this slab is truly 20 X 40 X 4 ft, which sounds right to me after seeing it. Solid limestone weighs about 163 lb per cubic ft. This piece is 259 TONS! Ouch!!

That would sure give you a black toenail!

I am trying to imagine where this huge of a chunk fell - is it now resting the the cavern area right before the chimney where classes do lost line drills and the like, or is it actually down at the bottom of the chimney?

I guess ill be there next month to see for myself!

It is right where you did your lost line drills with Rob. Pretty much that whole area is now 4 ft higher with one big slab of rock.
