campsites in 56 Florida parks

I was informed by the fellow that owns the site below that there is consideration for building campsites in 56 Florida parks, including the Iche and Peacock. There is a hearing you can attend, as well as get involved in other ways if you want to preserve the pristine conditions of these parks. Contact

I would love to be able to camp at Peacock, but I can't see it happening there. There is currently no water and no power. Don't know how much I like the idea of anyone else being able to camp there

Water and power are NOT requirements of "Camping".. LOL I would love the ability to camp there too. It would greatly reduce the costs of training in Florida.

I agree, but have you ever seen a state park camp ground without both? Typically they will have showers/restrooms with lights at a minimum.

Bring back rustic camping!!!....no bathrooms, you dig a hole and burry it when you leave for home. No potable water, you "fetch" it from the nearest river/creek and boil it (to be sure) it's safe for drinking. Food is packed in, empty containers packed out.

Makes me really appreciate my newfound method of camping...Holiday Inns. Roughing it would be the Blue Fin Inn in Islamorada on the way to the fishing boat...which has plumbing and potable water LOL. That's what age will do to ya

Yup! I pretty much grew up in the woods - my grandfather was a guide, my father was a game warden, and I spent a lot of time camping from a young age. Used to guide week-long canoe trips in Maine and Canada, and did a lot of trips on my own, up to a month in the bush. Now my favorite campsite is the cottage at Dive Outpost!

I'd be OK with campgrounds as long as the state parks run them.

I am not OK with the state parks opening up the parks to private campground fascilities.




I'm not sure which of these cases is being considered at Peacock, but both ideas have been laid on the table for various state parks.

I spent 10 days in a pop-up with AC while in cave country for my cavern/intro! Felt like we were staying in the Hilton! After the trip we decided we could have camped, as the night temperatures were still tolerable. July/August/September are a different story.

The Orlando paper stated that the state is considering allowing private concessionaires to run camp sites in 5 parks. One being Deleon Springs in Deleon, Florida. There was to be a meeting of interested parties (I believe today) to discuss the issue. One of the other parks was Honeymoon Park on the west coast. IMHO Florida has a really small amount of campsites per park and while not wanting to destroy natural habitat I believe some of the existing parks could well be expanded.
