    Default Pot Springs

I was diving at Pot Springs last week and my car got broken into. They smashed the driver's door window and stole my shorts which had my wallet in the pocket. Hidden elsewhere in the car was a GPS, camera and iPod. I only lost a bit of cash, some credit cards and driver's license. I was only away from the car for a little over an hour (a very short dive for me). The worst thing was the $200 to get the window replaced.

Just a word of warning to anyone thinking of diving there. The Hamilton County Sheriff's department weren't very surprised - they say it's happened before.

This is like Telford used to be,just way away from any type of law enforcement help. I heard some things this weekend indirectly that maybe really question the activity going on there.

I'd thought about purchasing a game cam for parking in out of way places in north florida.
At least i'd get their picture for law enforcement.

    Date: January 3rd, 1981 Lafayette/Snake sink
3 of us in the water, an onlooker comes by: "How's the water" "See anything down there" ! We submerge & then 90 minutes later make our egress to our van..........guess what ? The rear doors busted in & all our wallets & cash/credit cards were taken !
This tell you anything ? You will find numrerous accounts of our cave diver's cars/vans/ & trucks being broken into over the years on here. All you need to do is to search this web site for thefts or break-ins. & IT GOES ON ! I would love to hear of just one incident where the perps are caught in the act ! Just one !

Sorry to hear about that Andrew. I agree, every time I go in summer over there it is like Telford, Ruth, Anderson etc. Winter time or off-seasons are much better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ClAKkEUyCY We found lots of souvenirs there on that dive, the highlight perhaps was handcuffs (go figure what is the story behind it). I left windows down in my truck and when we came back after a dive there was a bird trapped inside - I had to scare him out and he $$it all over my dashboard...

Of course it isn't. I remember many years ago Roger Werner wrote an article in UWS about his personal efforts to avoid his stuff getting stolen while he was diving, either from his vehicle or the water.

The only time it has happened to me before was about 15 years ago in Tulum when Bil Philips and I were diving Ak-Tulum. We knew it was a risky area to leave things so we stashed our money and car keys under the hood in a little alcove next to the battery. When we got out they'd stolen my clothes and shoes, but my wallet and car keys were still there.

I was talking with a ranger this weekend and was told how they knew that when the Mexicans came: there would be feces on the floor and walls of the bathrooms.
At least the locals don't do that.
But we now dive "remote" areas at our own risk.

I like the idea of removing everything and leaving a window open.

Better yet: I'll bring my wife and her 9mm to watch over everything. My wife is a lawyer!

Perhaps a friend is an option for the rest of you.

Or ask a fellow diver to come along and watch.

There are people on this forum who make big bucks but might come just for the heck of it and watch over everything.
