Talking to a maintenance worker at Little River a couple weeks ago. He said that the cement pads between parking rows, closest to the stairs and under a couple trees, were put there for the benefit of divers. Give us a dry, clean place to suit up, prior to the installation of the racks. He said the parks dept would have no problem borking a couple holes in the pads to allow new racks, if that would be of benefit to us.

They've put in cement pads? If I had a say, I'd ask for no more hard surfaces to be added to the ground. More non-porous ground cover equals more run-off directly into the water.

John -- Do you mind contacting the parks people again and making sure its ok if we add 2 more tank racks?
No extra pads would have to be placed. The existing cement pads PRE-DATE the tank rack design. They were placed there by the parks dept for the benefit of divers. And were placed under the trees to give divers shade when suiting up. Since the tank rack supports have to be dug into the ground, new tank racks cannot be placed over the cement pads without having 8" (or so) holes drilled in them to permit the vertical supports for the racks.
When I talked to the supervisor repairing the stairs, our little group mentioned that it would be nice to have a set of tank racks closer to the steps. He said that the parks dept would be happy to "hole out" the existing cement pads so that tank racks could be built under the trees, close to the steps.
And for the record, if NFSA or any other group wants to add a couple more tank racks to Little River, they have my financial support.

I am trying to be sure I understand the spots you are talking about. There is a row of parking nearest the steps with some small trees...As I recall there is some existing concrete piyred there..is this the area where you are talking about?
Would tank racks there not be in the way of parking ??
I like where they placed the tank racks. It creates incentive for the back mount divers to park in the second and third rows rather than up front, thus making it far more convenient for side mount divers who can still gear up out of the back of their vehicles.
Now of course in the summer on any given weekend, the whole lot will be full of drunken red necks using the tank racks to hold their beer, etc...but it's still progress.
Will do! But lets clarify the area we are talking about first.
