A fight at Ginnie Springs Campground ended when one man accidentally hit his friend with a beer bottle, leaving the friend with a life-threatening neck injury, according to investigators.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Saturday at the privately owned the campground at 5000 NE 60th St. in northern Gilchrist County.

According to the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, the injured man, Nicholas E. Curran, 19, of Jacksonville, remained in critical condition at the intensive care unit at Shands at the University of Florida on Tuesday.

Investigators said Curran was fighting with someone in the roadway near Dogwood Springs inside the campground. Curran’s friend, Robert A. French, 18, also of Jacksonville, was apparently trying to intervene on Curran’s behalf when he picked up a beer bottle.

Sheriff’s Maj. Tony Smith said French swung the beer bottle, but instead of hitting Curran’s adversary, French hit Curran in the neck. Curran began bleeding profusely from the neck wound and was rushed to Shands with the life-threatening injury.

French was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery and booked into the Gilchrist County jail in Trenton. He posted a $10,000 bond and was released on Sunday.

Your thinking like a cave diver! I believe the proper vernacular would be "strapped

We used to have family camp-outs at Ginnie with my family, Jim Taylors' family, and the skiles. One year while we were playing guitars around the fire, our kids came screaming into the camp. They had driven Jims' Xterra to the bath house when someone riding on a pickup with about twenty drunks on it threw a bottle of beer through the closed drivers window. We all jumped in our cars and started looking for the truck. When I got almost to the store, I ran into a stopped truck loaded down with drunks, stopped in the road. Joe Taylor was standing at the tailgate with a gun in his hand escorting them off of the truck. I went and found the cops, but because the girls couldn't identify them positively, the cops wouldn't do anything. Apparently they had switched trucks to throw us off. Turned out that it was a group camping next to us. One of the group apologized later and said they ran the guilty party off. Supposedly he was a stranger that they picked up while driving around partying.

The two words "Burn Tester" are suddenly funny!

If cave diving were Star Wars, who would be Yoda?
