Default Rebuilt Tekna DV-3X vs MAKO or Sierra X

Hey folks, I'm wondering how the the rebuilt tekna holds up against other scooters as far as run time on cruise and at full speed, typical timeframe tekna will last before strating to have issues if used about twice a week consistently (I'd like to know the avg for other scooters as well-how long they last before repairs usually are needed)... If I were going on a dive with two divers, one has a Mako, the other a Sierra X and me with the DV-3X, how would the tekna do with keeping pace and if at cruise speed, are the ranges comparable?

Thanks for the help, I want toget one of these from Curt, but need to know a little more about em.

If anyone knows of any youtube footage with one of these teknas in action, I'd really like the link... Take it easy

    regards,
    JD

Depends on how it was rebuilt, but generally rebuilt ones will out run, and out last new Teknas. They tend to be nose heavy, since the batteries they were designed for are no longer available. Remember, the Tekna, Mako, Gavin, and Silent Submersion, all use the same blade/shroud (thruster). A Tekna has the same batteries as Mako, and short body Gavin, and SS scooters.

I have an older tekna, the mako, and ss-uv26. the tekna owner's manual says 45m runtime, but I've gotten two dives at 45 min each (half thrust I guess), second dive was noticable slow down towards the end. The mako is about the same, but a bit faster, so when two of us scooter the mako is turned down a notch or two to match speed. The ss-uv26 (long body) is twice the speed, runtime, etc. - a whole nuther class of scooter. The tekna is nose heavy as forrest said. I put pvc tubes on the nose and it helps, but does not cure. The mako is a bit nose-light, so a 3lb shot weight in the nose balanced it nicely. the ss-uv26 is nicely balanced all by itself.... tekna and mako have comparable ranges/runtimes (at least mine do). My tekna was reconditioned with the motor rewound (to increase speed I think). DV-3, not the 3X.

The best thing you could do is put your money aside and buy something else. I have had tekna's, mako's, aquazepps, farallon's and finally a SS.

Just go and find a used SS.

    Cheers.

I have a Tekna dv-3x and a ss-uv26 there is no comparing the two. My Tekna will do an hour easy on prop 7 . Probaly about 100-120 fpm against the flow at jb. I have taken my Tekna to p2200 but would not take it past that. The weight of the Tekna is a problem can slip it off unless your over a rocky bottom. It is a bit easier to handle than my 26. A lot easier to carry to the dive site. I will run the Tekna this weekend to get some good numbers. If you are ever in marianna abbot me q pm and you can try out my scooters for yourself. You should also know this is all done in a dry suit with double 95s and at least one stage.

It is called fat finger Tourette's. You need to look at the letters around the letters that were typed. In this case, I believe he meant:

"If you are ever in Marianna, shoot me a PM and you can try out my scooters for yourself."

    Cheers,

Do they make a "fat finger Tourette's" translator?
