Yes it should be paid. I lost a Rolex and they wrote me a check. It wasn't stolen, just fell off and was lost.

I got auto insurance to pay for a damaged scooter in a car accident. At first they would not cover it but after threats of a lawyer the cut me a check for the scooter.
I had $20k in damaged cave gear covered by homeowner's when I wrecked a truck 15 years ago. Destroyed is different. However, things have changed. Riders can be required on your policy. Loss may have to be specifically named or requested. Pull out your homeowners policy and review it. Its a pain in the tail, but it might pay off. I would bet loss would specifically not be covered unless you asked for it. Check it out and let us know.
Sorry to hear about your scooter, that really sucks.
I got an inland marine policy for all of my dive gear. It is a separate policy than my homeowners, but only costs about $425/year for $55,000 coverage. When my wife lost our light in the silt a few months back, I opened a claim and the agent said that I just needed to buy a new one and submit the receipt to him. When talking to the claims agent, he said the policy is usually for commercial entities, but it was going to work for what we needed. I have a really good agent/buddy who got me all setup with the policies and it sure does help me sleep better at night with all the crap I drag around.
Cheers,
Jeff
I do not believe it was. If I remember correctly, it was on the homeowners. I will try and find the paperwork.
I have a rider with state farm for outdoor and sports equipment. Lost-stolen, burned or otherwise lost at the house covered. Off the property-negative.
Home owners only covers so much and cave gear goes way over the limit.
Things like that need to be insured as a specific item with a rider like a gun. If it is covered like that, you can toss it or lose it at where ever and it's covered.
A four thousand dollar scooter would be 80-150 year to insure.
The reason they usually cover jewelry is that everyone would revolt is they did not.
If cave diving were Star Wars, who would be Yoda?
I lost a DUI drysuit and the home insurance covered it. I suspect it was stolen during a trip back north from cave diving. The agent did not think they would but suggested I submit a claim anyways. It was approved for replacement cost minus the policy deductible.
If anyone see someone selling a DUI CF200X black size large serial #103452 in FL, SC or NC let me know.
