That is only one of several options, and I agree with you BTW.

What are instructors charging for a cave ccr crossover course? While I always welcome learning new things and just skill practice I like to balance those benefits with what they cost. Bill

Ditto - I dont want to rely on anybody (that may or may not be there, if and when I need it) for my bail out gas.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

I prefer "sherpa bailout"... just don't tell my buddy

I'm in the same camp. I prefer to carry my own bailout. I usually plan for 2.0 SAC rate from deepest penetration with scooter failure. It comes out to a lot of gas, but I'd rather have too much than too little. That said, I do notice the "mental difference" when I am diving with a buddy vs. solo. There is THAT much more bailout should we need it.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

I just show my cave card. No one has ever asked what equipment I am using.

It may be worse in the summer. There used to be a body guard looking guy (not the one at the front gate) that used to patrol the area. He always seemed to be checking the bracelet vs gear from a far. The last few times I have been there, I have not seen him around.

Maybe I'll try to "sneak" the CCR in next time

I agree with being self sufficient when it comes to bailout. But a SAC rate of 2.0 could be WAY LESS than what you need if you take a CO2 hit. It might not be physically possible to carry enough bailout for a worst case scenario. To me, that's what my buddy's gas is for. I will calculate my bailout needs based on a high SAC rate and take that much gas. But if the poop really hits the fan, it won't be enough and I hope my buddy's gas will be available.

Just curious, how would you reconcile your first comment and solo diving?

I thought CCR Cave are for those wanting to learn to Cave dive with a RB. CCR Cave is not unit specific.

    Just my 2 cents.
