This behavior is unfortunately common in a variety of settings - caves, woods, mountains, lakes, rivers, springs, etc. People will go someplace beautiful, and then proceed to leave trash, carve graffiti, set things on fire, vandalize trail shelters, etc. Sometimes people that you would think would know better are the culprits - canoeists and kayakers, hikers, hunters and fishermen, even cavers and cave divers.

    Humans are strange animals.

It was at Blue Spring outside of Mayo where the state has built those incredible over night cabins for river goers.
The restrooms there were state of the art very $$$$$$.
I do not want to be a old SOB but as an adult with kids the park was not family friendly!
The minors were not of age, beer cans were strewn all over the spring.
I have heard the stories from other cave divers and now I know.
I will be packing the next time I visit and make sure to have my vehicle insured to the hilt!
We were warned that if the local scene was there to not stay long and move on.
I guess the the new place to hang out is Little River and Blue Springs for young adults.

I felt very uncomfortable with my teenaged daughter in tow.
Sad day when you are trying to convince your family to move south to put you closer the the caves.
I have no issue with responsible use of alcohol but minors / water/ alcohol/ trash talk recipe for trouble for us all.
It did not ruin the trip by no means it was fantastic but divers beware these locations if you are not already on guard.
I was not there to confront or initiate law enforcement and or teach anyone a lesson though I would have loved to.
The saddest thing when talking it over with Penny at Peacock she explained in many cases the parents of the kids are the same so they really do not know any different!

Okay, Lafayette Blue Springs State Park. I went there once in the fall and the place was pretty much empty. And I made note of the nice, new facilities. I almost booked a cabin last minute for the family but we ended up doing something else.
As someone with a teenage son and a soon-to-be teenage daughter, and as someone who has seen alcohol and drugs ruin families, I have a very low tolerance for drunken, (what we call LC -- for "low class"), behavior and I will not put up with much, if any of it, especially in state parks where there are rules and laws in place to deal with it.
I am very sorry you had this happen. Was there a ranger at Lafayette Blue? (Little River has patrols that come by every now and again but it does feel a bit like the wild west there at times....)
I think that this type of thing is only allowed to go on if we tolerate it.
