Funny story, same sorta thing happened to me when I lived in Michigan.

A guy in a truck, with his company's name, logo and PHONE NUMBER he he, plasterd all over one side and down the other throws his McDonald's bag full of trash out the his window of the truck at a red light.

I figured if he's that damn stupid I'm calling his boss, which is exactly what I did. Read him the freaking riot act.

This is one of the things that blew me away when I moved to Florida (from WA), the lack of respect for nature... the other was the lack of respect of personal property.

One time I was riding my bike to school (Chapel Hill, NC--Go Heels!). There was a long line of cars stopped at a light. Some passenger in a pickup tossed his McDonald's bag out the window. It was only about two cars ahead of me, so I picked up up, handed it back to him and said, "You dropped this." He tossed it back out when they started driving when the light turned green. I can't recall, but I think I picked it up and took it to a trash bin myself. But I do remember a lot of other drivers giving me the thumbs up and so on. It's been so many years now, I can't recall, but I'm pretty sure I reported his license to the cops who didn't really do anything.

My dad, on the other hand totally freaked out and figured the guy was gonna stalk me down and harm me.

I have had the opportunity to do this three times. Twice the idiot took it back and drove off - probably tossed it again as soon as he was out of sight. The third time was in a gas station parking lot. A guy opened his car door and set a big cardboard cup on the pavement. I went over and picked it up. When I saw that it was half full of coffee and the contents of his ashtray, it occurred to me that arming him with it while pissing him off might not be the best of all possible ideas. So I asked him, in a tone of voice meant to imply that nothing better could be expected of a person such as himself, "Would you like me to throw this in the trash (pointing to the can about three steps away) for you?" Probably lucky I didn't get punched.

Last spring while canoeing a local river I found a small bag of trash floating. I scooped it up and was about to put it in my trash bag when I saw that it had a speeding ticket in it with a name and address. When I got home I sealed the dripping bag of trash in a big plastic bag and a big USPS flat rate box and mailed it to him. Never heard anything back.

My father was a Vermont game warden - he would often find trash on the back roads that had a return address in it, and he would show up at the miscreant's door with the trash and a citation for $500.00.

Littering in the 1960s was no big deal. If you remember the Andy Griffith Show episode where Barney thought he was being replaced by the guy from the State Attorney's Office, he wrote the guy a ticket as a joke, then tore it in half and dropped it on the sidewalk.

Yup, and it still isn't, to a lot of people. In Vermont we have an annual state-sponsored "Green-Up Day", the first Saturday in May. People go out and pick up trash on the roadsides, and the state highway department provides trash bags and dump trucks. This has happened every spring since 1970, and there is still plenty of trash to pick up every year. On my road, a lightly traveled rural dirt road, I go from my property line down the hill to the state paved road. It is less than a mile, but I fill a 5 gallon pail every spring. I have often thought that analyzing what gets picked up would make a good thesis topic for somebody. One conclusion I've drawn is that litterbugs drink cheap beer.

Here in Texas we have a whistle blower website where you can pester the crap out of someone that you see litering. Can also be used to irritate ex-wives, crappy bosses, etc. They actually send a letter via snailmail to the offender saying "you've been busted". Yes I know this because I got one. It is a little itrritating because I dont think I threw anything out, but hey, its still a great idea.

I did mention it briefly in another post. Hopefully someone can rub it out since its on the limerock. You cant miss it since its in open water straight down from the steps I believe. Maybe reward signs for info on the idiots identity would get this stopped.

Does the state issue snowshoes for this event? Aren't you still burried under 3 feet of snow in May?
