    Default River Spring near Branford?

About 3 miles down river from bridge in Branford, my depth finder went from 14' to around 49' with a boil on the surface. I could see rock ledges under the water around this "hole". does anyone on here know about, or has dived this spot? I didn't have the GPS with me to mark the spot but it is across the river from a sand bar where people like to park there boats on the weekends!
(i know thats alot of places in that area)

    Did the water temp change?

If not, it's most likely a hole with an upwelling of river water... there are a few of those "false" springs in the rivers...

There is nothing in the Fl Geological survey about a spring or a river rise in that area. However, once you get below Branford, there are several places I have found where the river has gouged holes out to 40-50 ft. Usually, these will be in narrow stretches or where the river hits a rock outcropping and makes a sharp bend. Often you will see an upwelling from the water hitting the downstream side of the hole and being forced upward.

The deepest hole I have personally dove in the Suwannee (excluding springs) is 60 ft.

One problem this time of year is that cave water is about the same temperature as river water. Mid winter, or mid summer is better for finding a spring by water temperature difference.

Midsummer - the cold spring water hugs the bottom, and you just follow it upstream until you find the vent. I've found several small vents in the middle of the river after my hands got cold suddenly...
