Thanks again to everyone who offered photographs for the last research paper I put together on the effect of river reversals into springs. I will be submitting another research paper that has a large focus on the Devil's system at Ginnie (and other caves that flow beneath rivers) in the near future. This article primarily focuses on processes of underwater cave formation in Florida and uses data that many divers helped me collect at Ginnie in August 2008.
I am in need of several high-resolution photographs to show what these places look like to non-cave diving researchers. Unfortunately, academic research journals do not pay anything.... and as a post doc (now at the University of Texas) - I don't have any money to pay anyone... So all I can offer in return for photos is a photo credit and a pdf of the journal article once it gets published (which is likely to be 8 months to a year after the article is submitted).
On to the types of photos I'm looking for..... I need a good picture of the Devil's Ear entrance that shows the fracture geometry of the entrance - if the picture was taken out of the water and shows the river and a few divers, that would be even better. A similar picture of Little Devil's would also be useful. If anyone has pictures of fracture-like entrances anywhere in the Suwanee River Basin - I'd be interested in seeing those as well. All pictures will need to have a diver for scale. In order for the pictures to really convey the type of passage morphological information I'm looking for - they probably need to have been shot with off-camera flashes.
I'm also looking for several pictures inside Devil's. Some well-lighted pictures of fissure passages (even the first 200 feet would work) or in Mainland/Sweet Surprise. Photos of the fissures in the floor/ceiling area of the Hill 400 line and any domes would also be useful.
Somewhere, I saw a fantastic picture from Peacock that showed the Pothole entrance/crack and the tunnel with a couple of divers swimming in the frame. If anyone has anything similar - I'd love to see it.
If you have pictures on a web page that you can point me to - that would be ideal. Otherwise, please email me images at screen resolution to gulley dot jason at gmail. Once I decide what pictures will work best for the paper - I'll need 300 dpi jpegs from you.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Jason Gulley
