To a point, yes. That fine line between advice and instruction gives me pause. You never know if that gas plan you are discussing is for an intro diver with a brand new UV-26 or someone who is rated to make the dive. I'm a firm believer in mentoring. This allows new divers to get accustomed to doing things the way they were taught in a manner that allows personal growth as well as exposure to alternative ideas and methods.
I'm with you 100% on that type of advice. I'm also a firm believer in mentoring. I won't give dive planning advice on the open forum. However, advice on buying gear is different than advice on how to use the gear on a dive.
