Asking for technique and equipment advice from a forum is a diatribe waiting to happen. IMO, call your Instructor and ask him/her. Make them earn that cash you paid them!
I know I've learned quite a bit about diving while hanging out at the Outpost, Bills or Edds. Do's, dont's and a whole pile of WTF's.
If you meet the very same people at the dive site, I'm betting that the conversation would go much differently.
We just talk about you behind your back!
I completely agree with this and my students e-mail, text, call me on a regular basis, as well as talking to me about stuff at the dive sites. However, my opinion is not the only one, and also not necessarily the best. What works for me works for me. That doesn't mean it will work for everyone else. That's when it helps to ask questions of others, whether at the dive sites or on the forums. Isn't that part of the reason the forums exist?Originally Posted by Meister481

To a point, yes. That fine line between advice and instruction gives me pause. You never know if that gas plan you are discussing is for an intro diver with a brand new UV-26 or someone who is rated to make the dive. I guess I'm a little jaded myself after meeting a few people who are no longer with us.
I'm a firm believer in mentoring. This allows new divers to get accustomed to doing things the way they were taught in a manner that allows personal growth as well as exposure to alternative ideas and methods.
