I am happy that our Governor ( Rick " I still have not been indicted" Scott) is now saying that he is not closing our parks, but I do not think that he can be trusted. I like Billy's idea of showing our support for the parks anyway we can. Please keep writing letters to our state officials.

Yay! Thank you guys you make me feel so special!

Anyway I am willing to cheerlead in person if I am in Florida when they visit the parks, but I will be there next weekend only and then again in a couple of months... I will get Bobby to represent me. He is not as cute as I am but oh well...

YAHOO! Best news I have heard in a while!
Thanks to all of you who wrote letters and I guess it is time to mail round two!
I have grown convinced that once a idea or proposal had been on the table it remains there at least in many Reps minds.
It might be revised next time but it will be back! The thing is not being caught off guard!
Thank you to NFSA and all who participated in the campaign.
    It is not over!

I think we should work with the state park management to implement Pete's idea immediately. They make these decisions by the numbers... We need to give them some numbers!

Kelly & NFSA Mgt. - This should be a high priority, along with mustering attendance when the state officials come to inspect each park... If I'm down there when there are visits, I'll surely attend...

I am wondering how they derive their attendence numbers. There may be some validity to what you are suggesting.

Well, at parks where there's only an iron ranger (eg. WSPSSP), unless the roaming ranger is counting people, I don't see how they could even take accurate attendance stats... The only thing that would give any clue would be the number of cash entrance fees collected. But that would leave out pass holders as well as families using a "family" pass. I would favor a slight alteration to the "iron ranger" envelope. A check box for "Pass holders" and a space for "No. of passengers in Vehicle." Each pass holder (including those riding together in one car) fills out an envelope and indicates how many are entering on that pass (assuming a family pass). It's the only way I think we'll get accurate results. I realize it's a bit of bureaucracy, but if it will keep our parks open, now and in the future...

Now Madison Blue has a ranger station at the entrance, and everyone (even pass holders) has to sign in... So I'm really wondering how they couldn't know the stats there, unless they simply weren't collecting them, or that station is often closed and operates as an "iron ranger" at times.
