Study into behaviors and attitudes in sport.

Dear all,
I am currently gathering data for my 3rd year research project at Bangor University, the study looks at people's attitudes and behaviors in sport, specifically, higher risk sports.

If you are 18 or over and have been involved in SCUBA diving for 3 years or more and have a spare 10/15 minutes, your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Just finished the survey, Miles. Of course, like many personality profiles it records what the subject perceives about themselves rather than what others might perceive about them.

In the Myers Briggs inventory I am a STRONG extrovert. Following three days of personal psychological screening in Princeton required by the state... er... I mean our denomination for all seeking ordination, I was deemed to be a STRONG introvert with acquired extrovert skills. Which may indicate why diving alone re-energizes me.

I wonder if you have considered an analytical study of posts in a technical forum setting. Example...

Question raised.
Immediate answer given.
Flame.
Flame.
Flame.
Flame in response to flame.
Explanation (justification) of flame.
More complete answer given.
Random discussion and humor (which tends to settle the dust).

Assuming that any given question has multiple subjects who are vested in the response. We all get to benefit from a spectrum of personalities with information, cautions and judgments which may, in themselves, form a pretty balanced assessment for the forum audience. Hmnn... maybe we do all have a purpose here?

Hokey smokes, you've pretty much hit the nail squarely on the head. Though you need about 20 more "Flame"s in there. Read the Cadillac Motel Fire on TDS?

PS - I'm an extrovert who loves to ham it up, but have, on occasion, crossed a street to avoid having to decide if I really know a person and do I talk with them or not. Plus I really need some alone time.

I'm the guy up front with the guitar singing loud and greeting everyone at the American Legion bar on dollar Tuesdays... and I enjoy it! But I recharge when I am reading or tinkering or driving or diving alone. You never know Barbara, you may be a closet introvert yourself!

Years ago my best friend was in pre-med (those were the days - she changed career paths and became a lawyer instead) and was involved in a psychology experiment. She was supposed to get subjects to predict whether their friends would call them introverts or extroverts. But she told me, "I can guarantee everybody will call you an extrovert, but I know you better than they do, and I know you're an introvert."

Every single person said I'm definitely an extrovert, with one exception: my mother. She said, "Everybody probably thinks you're an extrovert, but they're wrong."
