Default What is Best Route to the Crypt

I am interested in checking out the Crypt at Peacock. Based on the map the best place to start would be Cisteen. However based on what I read Cisteen is not a very good entry point.

That being said it looks like Peacock I is the closest easy entry, but a long swim. Anyone done this dive? What is the best route? What is the approximate distance?

The only route of choice is starting from P1,when Olsen was open that was the easiest. P1,to Olsen, then to the Crypt will provide the most bailouts, but for the variety of passages I like P1,to Nicholson, then Cisteen line around to the Crypt. FWIW,watch for instability in the Crypt.

Not that much of a swim. Probably not more than going to Challenge from P1.

IMHO The easiest is Pothole to Olsen, then a right and a left somewhere. The lower gaswise route is probably up the Peanut line, crossover, olsen, then a right and a left somewhere. The Cisteen route is nice but quite a bit longer.

It's about a 55 minute swim up the pothole line to the crypt and once you get there it's a low silty mess.

    Lots of fun though. Enjoy!

We've always done P1 to Olsen , 200 feet to jump onto Cisteen Line , then jump left to the Crypt.

Thanks for all the information it is greatly appreciated.
I have read about the lower Crypt and intend to stay out of there. It sounds like it could easily live up to it's name.

Seems like a good nav dive for my full cave class coming up soon. I may need to stage a bottle. I typically make it from P1 to Olsen with gas to spare. Not sure if I have enough to go what looks like another 600 - 700' from there.

I summary looks like I take P1 to Olsen, Gap Olsen, take 1st right jump onto Cisteen Line, then take 1st left jump and I'm on my way.

My preference is to take the Pothole-Olsen line to the Cisteen line to the jump to the Crypt. It seems longer, but I think the reality is that it is a bit more efficient than gapping Olsen, making the jump to the right past Olsen then jumping to the Crypt, or worse going up the peanut line and through the cross over or to the peanut restriction then a few hundred more feet toward Olsen to the jump to the Crypt.

The passage from Cisteen to the Crypt is moderately low and tight but with good technique it is easily done very cleanly so silt should not be an issue unless your skills are lacking.

My suggestion then is to take the Pothole-Olsen tunnel to Cisteen, then jump to the right past Cisteen to go to the Crypt. It is do-able on thirds with 130s/cave filled 95s assuming you have a decent SAC, and if you are a pessimist, both Cisteen and Pothole could serve as emergency bailout points in the very unlikely event of serious gas loss. If you take a stage you'll have gobs of gas in reserve and there are two areas in the early portion of the Cisteen line that provide good locations to drop a stage.

Doesn't anybody call that the Main Line any more? My instructor's turning over in his grave, and he isn't even dead yet.

Well, with the "Peanut Tunnel" line offering "gold" competition....

    Or, does that not count?
