I have a slight problem with my thumbspools, The line gets twisted a bit over time. I saw somebody else's jump the other day where a small fisherman's swivel had been tied in a few cm from the end.

It seemed to me a good idea. Does anybody have experience with this?

Sounds like a good idea. That's why I don't like spools - the line twists with every wrap. So I just use jump/gap reels.

My first thought is that it doesn't seem Dir.
My second thought is wow, I should of thought of that.

I currently flip the reel every ten turns or so, and still end up with enough twist sometimes to make getting the reel back though the header difficult.

@Slüdge, jump/gap reels are too bulky for my dives in Mexico. I often carry and use 6 or more thumbspools on a low profile Bogeyman D ring. @FLDVR, funny, I thought the same thing, not DIR, but I grew out of that and wear a helmet now . I also flip every 10 or so turns. Let's see if there is a downside we have missed.

My buddy Jim Clark on this board has used them for awhile with good results, cant say I have tried them yet. I like reels, small side handle ones. Use a spool as a safety only, so it stays in the pocket all of the time.

I have been using the same reels for over 10 years and never experienced this. I might be because I am left handed and turn the spool over with out thinking about fairly often. I had the same reels for 350 or so dives now.

I use swivel on my spool. It work fantastic.

I put one just after the start loop and a other one about ten feets away. that way when I do a tie off to secure a long jumps the second swivel is taking the twist.

I use stainless steel swivel for deep sea fishing (alan, Arte de pesca, corner of 30 avenue and 28 street, playa del carmen) I figured, if that thing can stand a marlin if fury, it can stand the tension I put on it...

How are you taking the line back in? I primarily use spools and haven't had this issue.
