Default pros and cons of nitek trio

my fellow cave diving buddy is interested in a new/back up computer. He is thinking about the nitek trio. I also have another cave diving buddy who has one and has had to return it twice for transducer problems and now the compass in not working properly. Anyone care to comment if they have one?

I have one and have had zero problems with it, probably getting close to 100 dives on it. The only thing I will say is that it is relatively conservative, I dive it and my older Aeries Atmos 2 at the same time, with the Nitek set on 0 for conservatism I will still rack up 15 min of deco before the Atmos hits NDLs.

I don't have one, but I've had a few students with them. The only issue I have is it resets itself after 10 minutes. While this may be okay for most people, in class we spend a bit of time reviewing the dive plan and doing head to toes and by the time we're ready to descend, the Trio has to be reset.

Yes - it does do that, and it defaults to 100% O2 after you have been using anything but air. I found this out the hard way at about 20' one time. It has become habit for me to set my gas as part of my head to toe check now, not before getting in the water. (The 10 minute count down only happens once its wet from what I can tell)

I have two and have never had any problems, I think it's a really good easy to use and reliable computer.

If your friend is trying to save a few bucks, check the Zeagle version too. My dive shop sells both Zeagle and DiveRite and the same computer from Zeagle was less expensive. (probably has to do with the shop's buying volume, but hey...a bucks a buck!)

Or call Edd at Cave Adventurers if you really want the Dive Rite.

Consider the Nitek Duo, it costs less. Why would you need to use more than two gases, unless you were using Trimix? Then, you would need a Trimix computer anyways.
