I usually dive solo - when I see an instructor with a class in the cave I try to stay out of the way and not interfere with the drills - it's complicated enough on the students without having somebody come plowing through the middle of it, lights on behind a scooter, etc. If it's a lights out drill I cover my light. If they are on the line I get away as much as I can. And God forbid if they need help, I'll assist in any way possible - but otherwise I stay away.

Great response. One that suggests you are really starting to mature as a diver.

    Good advice.

Rebreathers are something that we have to go to in order to dive the way we want to dive. They are not something we go to for any other reason.

it's actually meant to be sincere. The word has a different meaning and higher standards at 45 than it does at 25.

I was over at Ginnie one time, and we were doing some no mask lost line drills. My buddy Dave took his mask off, and started looking for the line when a student/instructor came in and the student kept kicking/grabbing/running into Dave trying to get to the grate. The instructor finally grabbed him by the isolator, and dragged him back out. Poor Dave. The funny part was he thought it was us trying to mess with him. He wouldn't believe our story until the instructor came up to him and apologized.

Thank you. I wish more divers did this!

I think Adam knows that. His point might have been that his instructor never gave him a lights out signal. All of a sudden, his primary light was just dead! Just a guess...
