Pinning a Line

When two teams are about to enter a system at or close to the same time (and it is discussed before hand), the first team in will place the spool, the second team in will cookie the line near the reel. First team back to the reel after the dive, takes the cookie, second team back, sees the cookie gone, and knows it is OK to pull the reel.

Works great in areas where multiple lines are more of a hazard. Like I stated earlier, it needs to be discussed and agreed upon by everyone involved before dropping a cookie on someone's reel.

Also the cookies need to be dropped near the reel (if the intent is to share a line). In my case someone left the cookie on the other end of the line. When I got to the cookie I had already pulled all but 20' of my line.

what does this mean I am a bit confused?

My line was run from the eye to the ear. The pin was left about 20' from the eye. If the intent was to share my line, this should have been discussed with me before the dive, and the pin should have been left near my reel not near the exit.
