The last two posts pose an interesting matter of perspective.
Let's say diver A dives every Wednesday morning, sets up a circuit and then completes it and pulls his reel every Thursday morning. Dive B gets up later in the morning and then does two dives every Wednesday - and then one days spends Thursday complaining that there has been a reel left in place for the last several weeks/months. It's a extreme example but it illustrates how seeing the same thing on wide spread occasions could lead someone to suspect it had been there the whole time in between. It is just a matter of timing and perspective, so looking for growth, silt, etc names etc may be a good idea.
I think a week is more than enough time and leaving a post that it will be pulled is a good idea.
A blue DiveRite jump reel was in place at the end of the Peanut line on May 31st. This reel did not look like it had been there for too long, there was observable, but not heavy sediment on it at that time. It was gone just 4 days later.

When I was in class with John, I know we put in a jump from Olsen to the cross over tunnel, and it was there for a few days. I know its a different spot, but obviously this is something John does.
I have left jumps in over night, but never any longer than that.
Why not "tag" a questionable line with a cookie, kind of like the stickers that get put on cars when they sit on the highway too long, as a warning before the car, or in the case, reel, gets removed.
