Default Jump reel at Peacock Springs State Park (PSSP) to be removed

It has come to the attention of the line committee that a jump reel has been in place at the end of the gold line on the Peanut line @ PSSP for a couple of weeks.

This coming Sunday morning August 22, 2010 this reel will be removed by members of the NFSA line committee.

Line committee members do not want to interfere with cave divers navigational markers or reels but we feel that a reel left for this long needs to be removed. There has been a long standing rule at PSSP that reels should not be left overnight.

I believe the owners name is on the reel (if its the one I have seen on my last couple of trips there.

If it's the one I remember seeing I think the owner is John Orloski (sp?)

    Maybe it's a different reel...

That does seem to be a little too restrictive. While not an every day occurence, I can envison someone setting up a traverse and leaving a primary, jump or gap reel over night.

Although I have always understood the overnight rule exists I have never seen it enforced, and I used to dive Peacock 2-3 times/week for a couple years. But if we're going to have a rule for the sake of making a rule I would think 72 hours is more reasonable.

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

Wow, I have been diving there for the last 12 years or so and did not know the rule existed (maybe I am a bad person...?).... We left our reels there overnight during our full cave course when setting up the traverse and other dives.... oh well... I agree with Mike, 72 hrs is more like it....

    Dive safe,

They can't admit to ignoring the rule, but leaving a reel over a weekend isn't enforced

The overnight rule is what I have "heard" for several years.

No one from the line committee will pull any reels unless they have been installed there for a long time, say over a week or two. There will also be an announcement such as the one that started this thread and folks will have ample time to be advised.

This may not even be a line committee deal at all. Seems more to me a cave diver community gig.

I am familiar with this reel at the end of the Peanut line. This reel has been in place for over 6 months.
