    Default Coal mine diving

    Anyone have any experience diving in a flooded coal mine? Do you have to worry about acid water messing up the fabric in a trilam dry suit? I don't know how bad the ph is.

    They dive in a lead mine in Missouri, so I would think coal would not have as much possible toxins in the water. Black silt might be an issue, though.

    I've heard of folks diving in flooded granite quarries in north Georgia. A buddy and I sneaked into one to check it out, but never dove it. It was a huge tunnel with smooth walls and nothing to see, so we decided it was a waste of time. Cold clear water and no toxins to worry about in a granite mine...

    Anthracite = activated charcoal????????

    Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!

    The town of Bonne Terre used to use the water from the mine for drinking water. As the levels rose higher it started getting more minerals in it but is still safe to drink. I have not dove there yet but have visted it and it is awesome, water crystal clear. Visit youtube and search redbull depth charge for some great video as they did wake boarding underground!!!

    Not worrying about drinking the water. I know mines tend to have acid drainage. My gaugebodies are not shiny and smooth since my dive. I know there is some acid in the water. Should have worn my wetsuit. I guess time will tell. Hardly any black silt. good vis. And by the way, coal has no taste, but you end up with a funny looking mouth..
