How much do you actually practice skills other than S drills?
Skills such as; line entanglement (including cutting line to free yourself, being on out side etc..), lost line, jammed reel.
never since my original cave class
2 or 3 times a year
once a month or more

Not so much in practice rather than in necessity.
After adding a little bit of line at the Tree Cave and then being the last one out the VIZ was absolutely zero... I was just imagining what the cave looked like and "okaying" the line on the way out. We eliminated that as a lead!
well, I was practicing all the above pretty much in every dive when I used to take my old oms reel...lol, the bad is that I never managed to repair any of the jams in that reel... so there it came the other skill of entangled and cutting line
since them not very often, only when I get in troubles![]()

I dont do line repair drills but I know I can if I have to. I did uncontious diver removal, holding their reg in place and controlling both wings as we exit and surface in Rescue class but with a single tank. Id like to try it again with a sidemount diver to see how much different it would be. Its good to go over no vis exits with buddies to be sure were on the same page but dont do it much anymore.
Heh, I really didn't know you had to 'practice' jammed reel either.

The right reel never jams...
While I don't practice jammed reel, line cutting, etc, I do demonstrate valve drills, both in backmount and sidemount to my students on a regular basis.

never say never....
I never jammed my H reel, but once I loaned it to somebody to run it a a primary and he managed to do it very well...... so, they ALMOST never jam, but when they do.. just cut the line or will never unjam it underwater....
even the jam proof spools sometimes manage to jam, not very often tho, I never had a reel worst that the one I mentioned above (oms one), that reel always wanted to kill me.
