Do you know how to repair a line?

yes I do, and I can make good rappelling tie offs too, and a good pit bull muzzle in a single piece.

I'm fairly competent with ropes and knots and such. It comes in handy in many areas.

I am pretty competent with a variety of knots and line management skills. Scouting, boating, fishing, rigging and all that, but I would have to say I have never been formally educated in the method of conducting a "real line repair".

To date, I have done the best I could and informed the appropriate parties.

Do we need a debate first on the proper way to repair a line or should people just self judge on whatever line repair technique they think will work?

I point more in the direction if they know how to do it or not, not "I think I can", so that will involve have practiced it at least once I guess. If you know at least one technique and have used it, so you already know a bit how to do the repair and mostly will work.
I ask this because is a simple thing but is also a bit hard to do in some cases, and if you do the repair bad will not find the line in the way out for sure. and was wondering how many are ready to face a line cut and be able to repair it.

besides that, would be cool to throw in the different ways you have for that and I could get to learn something new for sure

This was actually a thread I had considered starting after my Apprentice course. I was surprised that by that time we had not yet practiced cut line for real. Yes, I know at least of one procedure but I suck at knots and have not done it for real at this point (am actually planning to do more mocks in open water).

We are hoping last couple of days of Full would include some scenarios (have requested it but then again we have requested other things too...)We are also hoping to hook up with some more experienced divers to get some play time. It sure is not same to just read about it and then realize what challenges something simple like current is going to bring on.

try it in the cavern tie a line, very tight, then cut it and repair it, is fun, don't let any end go away that is the challenging part of it, you feel like you should have 3 hands , when done pull it and see if doesn't slide , hopping gary will post some techniques some time soon
